VP800 Series: My fan turns on, but the lights don't come up.

  • Remove the computer, if you have one connected. Take the grey VGA cable out of the back of the projector.
  • Turn off the unit with the switch next to the projector.
  • Turn on the switch. Listen for the low speed fan. If you do not get a low speed fan, check "My projector’s fan and lights don’t come on."
  • Press the power on/standby button. Listen for the fan to kick into high speed, and stay in high speed. If the fan does not stay in high speed, the projector’s lamps are not powered. Follow the suggestions below until the fan kicks into high gear.
  • Press the button quickly and firmly, then wait five seconds. The Power on/Standby button turns the lights on and off. Do not hit the button twice within any 5 second period, or you will simply turn the projector on and off again.
    a. Use the remote. It is easier than the keypad.
    b. Make sure your computer is disconnected.
    c. Press your finger down continuously for 10 seconds, then pull your finger up. Wait at least 5 seconds before trying it again.
  • Once the fan is in high speed and has stayed there, check the lamps. WARNING: If the projector is hot, wait 5 minutes for it to cool down.
    a. Press the Power on/Standby button until the fan is back in low speed.
    b. Open the lamp door in the front of the projector.
    c. Do not touch the lamps with your fingers. Finger oil destroys the lamps. Use a soft cloth or the plastic bag the lamp comes in.
    d. Look at the lamp filaments. The rectangular filament should be smooth and shiny. If it is rough, broken, or missing, switch to the other lamp.
    e. Grasp the lamp changer handle. It looks like a frame around the two lamps. Pull it away from the door and toward the unit. Slide it sideways to the other side of the door. Press it back against the door. This is illustrated on page 28 of the owner’s manual.
    f. heck that one lamp is in the center of the unit, and the other all the way to the side.
    g. Close the lamp door. The latch should click back into place. Do not force it closed. The lamps will not light if this door is open.
    h. Press the Power on/Standby button until the fan is in high speed. If the fan dies back down, see instructions above.
  • Replace the lamps. This is illustrated on page 30 of the manual.
