IN THREE-POUND MOBILE PROJECTOR CLASS High-contrast, feature-packed projectors offer great performance at low cost BEAVERTON, ORE. - March 6, 2003 - PLUS Vision Corporation of America, the leader in projector miniaturization technology, announced today its all new U4 line of DLP projectors in the three-pound class. The first two models being introduced in the U4-series include the U4-131, a 1500 lumen XGA projector, and the U4-111, a 1200 lumen, SVGA projector. Both models are versatile, feature-packed projectors in a lightweight three-pound size, making them ideal for boardroom or classroom presentations, as well as for use by mobile professionals. Both new models are built on Texas Instruments' next generation Digital Light Processing™ chip technology. This technology, coupled with additional proprietary technology from PLUS, has greatly enhanced the overall performance of the line. The U4-131 and the U4-111 projectors also sport a 1500:1 contrast ratio that projects life-like colors and images, and crisp image clarity in any presentation setting. Both offer a 1500 hour lamp life, with an "EcoMode" option to extend lamp life more than 25 percent, to 2000 hours. The two projectors further offer whisper-quiet performance. "The U4 models are two of our most versatile projectors yet," said S. Mark Hand, vice president of sales and marketing at PLUS Vision Corporation of America. "At only three pounds, with 1500 lumens of brightness, the U4-131 offers great performance in any environment, for any size audience. The DDR DMD chip employed in the U4s allows for some of the sharpest images and the best motion video in projectors today." The U4 series also meets the needs of mobile presenters. It offers digital zoom, digital keystone correction, and a presentation timer. The timer can be set for presentation times of 10 to 60 minutes in 10-minute increments. It displays the remaining time for the presentation on screen. The addition of the two units also expands the number of three-pound models in PLUS Vision's three-pound series to seven, the largest offering in the three-pound class. "We expect the sales of front projectors weighing 3 pounds and less to triple in the next three years growing from 0.5 million units in 2003, to 1.5 million units in 2006," said Sweta Dash, projection director at iSuppli/Stanford Resources Inc. "Three pound projectors are going to be the fastest growing class of projectors in the industry." The new U4 projectors also support the latest in video standards including 480p, 780p and 1080i High Definition imaging. Additionally, they allow for DVI (pure digital signaling), RGB (data), component and composite inputs; enabling any multi-media presentation or video viewing. Both projectors come standard with all necessary data, video and audio cables, a full-function credit card style remote control and soft carrying case; fulfilling all the needs a presenter requires for effective presentations. The U4-111 will be introduced with a street price of $2,145 and the U4-131 at $2,595.
